Giving something back: CSR of 2018 so far

Have you ever wondered just how much CSR work we get up to? The answer is A LOT! 2018 has been a busy year with loads of time donated and cash raised for amazing causes.

Our team can take up to 4 volunteer days every year for CSR events or for some individual fundraising that they are passionate about. Also, any personal fundraising they do, ANS will match the amount raised up to the value of £100!

If it’s not always possible for people to give up your time or they’re not around the office much to contribute to CSR events, they can join our give as you earn scheme. ANS will deduct a percentage of their wage each month to donate to a charity of your choice. That way, we know we are always helping someone else in the community!

So far in 2018 we are so proud to say we have raised over £10,500 for our partner charities. Here are some of the ways we have achieved it…

In January we launched a bike drive for The Manchester Youth Zone as part of their ‘Bike to the Future’ project. It involves renovating bikes and bike parts so that young people can learn basic mechanical and workshop skills to improve their future employment prospects. Not only that, it teaches them responsibility, enhances their confidence and improves their wellbeing.

March saw us host a successful Easter bake sale to raise funds for Manchester Central South Foodbank. In the same month we had another foodbank drive in the office and we collected loads of food to help those who rely on donations.

Some of the ladies in the office attended the incredibly inspiring Forever Manchester Women’s Event in April to help raise funds for female-led community projects. The keynote speaker was Dr Helen Pankhurst, great granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst, to celebrate the centenary of women in the UK receiving the right to vote.

Throughout the first part of the year, the guys in the London office were getting their bake on as they had the first Great ANS Bake Off. Each week one of the guys baked some goodies and the others got to judge their efforts. They created loads of awareness for the Royal Society for Blind Children but the £500 they managed to raise was definitely the icing on the cake!

May turned out to be a busy month with some volunteers heading over to Salford Quays to take part in a charity dragon boat race. The day was really exciting, and the team managed to raise over £1,000 for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. Amazing! Sporty events seemed to be the theme that month as some employees joined in the Forever Manchester 10k run and raised over £700.

We have been a founding partner of the The Manchester Youth Zone for 6 years now and, as we do every year, we have donated £25,000 to the organisation so they can continue to help some of the most vulnerable children and young adults in Manchester.

In June, some of the CSR Team went down to the centre to help them celebrate their rebranding as they went from The Factory Youth Zone to The Manchester Youth Zone. We are so excited to join them on their new chapter and see where it takes them.

June also saw some of us take part in foodbank collections at Tesco in Stretford. These collections are a huge success and there is another coming up in December so keep an eye out! Also, we always have our own mini foodbank in the office where we can donate food and other items that will help struggling families in the community.

By far, our biggest CSR event of the year has to be the most recent one, the Three Peaks Challenge in August. 23 loonies took on our toughest challenge yet and (nearly) beat the 3 highest peaks in the UK. The final figure for funds raised was an incredible £7,800 for RMCH! Well done guys!

2018 been a great year for RMCH so far. Out of the £10,500 we have raised so far, nearly £9,000 of that has been for RMCH. All funds raised go to help support the amazing work they do at the hospital and towards the purchase of specialist equipment to diagnose and provide treatment to young patients more quickly and easily.

But it’s not over yet! Coming up we have the all familiar Macmillan Coffee Morning coming up on 28th September and we love cake so much we have “October Cheer Fest”, a spooky bake sale for Forever Manchester coming up at the end of October.

Another huge event we have coming up is the Charity Boxing Night in October. We have 4 ANS fighters on the night who are currently training hard and fundraising for St. Mary’s Neonatal Unit in Manchester. Last year, we helped to raise an outstanding £50,000 for the hospital and this year is promising to be another fantastic night!

In October some of our sales guys will be taking part in Byte Night 2018. This is a huge nation-wide sleepout that was started by Leeds City Council. The guys will be sleeping out overnight in Media City to raise awareness and money for vulnerable young people across the UK.

Christmas is just 14 weeks away which can only mean one thing, MeANS Christmas will be here before we know it! Every year we manage to give more presents to underprivileged children than the year before and we are aiming to make 2018 our best year yet! And we can’t forget Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 14th December to get us all in the festive spirit!

Our partner charities hold a special place in our hearts and our CSR work is a special part of our unique culture. It’s the ANS team spirit that allows us to help so many people in the Manchester community.
